Where Will You Spend Eternity?

Where Will You Spend Eternity?

Do you know for sure where you will spend eternity?

God has to be true to Himself. People are foolish to entertain the hope that He will ignore justice and sacrifice holiness in order to allow unbelievers into heaven. Living a mostly moral life will not satisfy a righteous Judge.

As much as the Lord loves us and desires to save us from our sins, He cannot deny His holiness by accepting sin in His presence. Our sin creates an impassable chasm between us and eternal life with God. Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." The Father is pristine perfection--a holy Being who, by His very nature, must condemn all sin. Therefore, it is the height of arrogance to think that God will bend both His law and His nature to welcome one whom still bears the stain of wrongdoing.

There is not one person who's good enough to enter heaven on his or her own merit. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace ye are saved though faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast." Every one of us needs Jesus. Romans 3:23 teaches us, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Those who remain tightly wrapped in their lives of sin cannot hope to sneak into heaven. Religion and good works cannot bridge the gap created by our sin.

Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." God's holy nature demands perfection, and
since we can't provide this for ourselves, the Lord has given it to anyone who receives, by faith, His gift of eternal life. The stain of our sin is washed clean only by the death, burial and resurrection of God's holy and blameless Son. Those who receive God's gift of Jesus Christ are forgiven their wrongs and clothed in His righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21).

 I John 5:11-13 tells us, "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God;
that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." God wants us to be able to have assurance of where we will spend eternity.

It is of utmost importance that you understand that trusting Jesus is far more than giving intellectual acknowledgement to His existence--that's something to which even the Devil agrees (James 2:19). A true believer enters into a
relationship with the One, God, who loves his soul enough to save him from eternal punishment in a very real place called hell. You must put your faith and trust in Jesus for your eternal life just as you would trust a parachute you put on when jumping from 10,000 feet out of an airplane.

God promises that if you will pray to Him and confess that you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive your sins, turn away from your sin and to Him alone to save you,
He will save you and give you the free gift of eternal life. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). You can make this decision today by praying from your heart, something like this:

Dear God, I know that I am separated from you because of my sin. I confess that in my sin, I cannot save myself. Right now, I turn to you alone to be my Saviour. I ask you to save me from the penalty of my sin, and I trust you to provide eternal life to me. -- Amen.

You can make this decision today. Please don't delay. Over 100,000 people die every day. Hebrews 9:27 says, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment," None of us are guaranteed tomorrow. "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4:14)
